New Rebuildfstab for installed Caine 2.0
For those install Caine 2.0 on their hard disk, they can replace the file /usr/sbin/rebuildfstab with this here:
rebuildfstab .
Then do:
sudo gedit /etc/fstab and remove each row.
rebuildfstab .
Then do:
sudo gedit /etc/fstab and remove each row.

Re: New Rebuildfstab for installed Caine 2.0
I have updated the rebuildfstab just now...! please use it!
fstab + keyboard layout
If I do "sudo gedit /etc/fstab and remove each row" the ro mounting (and complete mounting policy) is gone.
Do you mean that you have to remove the whole content of "fstab" or just a couple of rows? Witch one?
BTW: is there a way to permanently change the keyboard layout (for ex. from 'it' to 'be') on the installed version?
If I use the script on the Desktop it returns to 'it' after restart/logout.
Thx,
David

Re: New Rebuildfstab for installed Caine 2.0
Ok but if you are using the rebuildfstab I put over there, the only change is the activation of the SWAP file, so your istalled Caine is faster...the swap file needs to be off only in the Live distro, to avoid the live distro uses swap file of the seized disk (if the are in ext3/4).
The fstab ...yes leave it complete
For the language...use the Ubuntu control panel to change the keyboard layout, it would work...let me know.

Re: New Rebuildfstab for installed Caine 2.0
Thx for the swift reply.
I downloaded and replaced the new rebuildfstab but I still get the same error at startup....
Keyboard-problem: When I change the keyboard layout trough the Ubuntu control panel I still get Italian layout (qwerty) at restart, even when I remove it in "Keyboard Preferences".
Gtrngzzz,
David

Re: New Rebuildfstab for installed Caine 2.0
The "startup error" is not an error is a message caused by the mount policies...they are important to avoid the accidental mounting of the disks.
For the kayboard settings, try:
setxkbmap us
and then
sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup
let me know

Ah, ok.
Is there any way to avoid this, or to continue booting without having to hit s?
I use CAINE on a secondary computer (without display, keyboard and mouse) via remote desktop. And when I startup the machine, it always stops at the "mounting message".
Thx

Re: New Rebuildfstab for installed Caine 2.0
I have to work on this...but for now...it's safer to have this little annoyance rather than risk to mount in rw the disks
