Trouble Imaging RAM Empty Trouble Imaging RAM

Post  pkuhl Wed May 27, 2009 5:32 am

I am unable to image RAM from the Windows side of Caine. I can select either win32dd or MDD from within WinTaylor. The command prompt window will open; however, I get the error message using windd:
Error: StartService(), Cannot start the driver. 000002
Error: Cannot open \\.\win32dd.

A similar driver error will be displayed if I use MDD from the command prompt.

I am attempting to image 4GB of RAM on a Dell D630 laptop, running WinXP(w/sp3). The profile used has admin. rights but is not the Administrator account.

Suggestions? Anyone else experience this?

Have you tried to open MDD or Win32dd not using the interface, but executing them directly by terminal?

We haven't experienced this kind of bug, so please hold on! Very Happy

Trouble Imaging RAM Empty Imaging RAM Issues

Post  pkuhl Wed May 27, 2009 11:15 pm

Following up to my original post...
When I launch either application from WinTaylor, I notice the cmd.exe terminal window is launched from the c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe location, not from the cmd.exe on my E: drive (My CD-rom drive).

I launched e:\programs\cmd.exe first;
then launched win32dd from within this cmd.exe ternimal window. Same errer message results.

So I guess the answer to your question is yes, I have tried to launch the applications from within the included cmd.exe terminal window. Same error message.

I am also looking at other command line applications on Caine the automatically run the cmd.exe from the host machine and not from the CD.

I also checked my MD5 hash of the ISO; they match. Just FYI.
