Installing CAINE interface
Hi there,
I'm building my own tool suite. Mixing BT3 and Helix/CAINE. I want to be able to include the caine interface on my release. Is there a way to install it onto a vanilla ununtu?
Thanks
Charles

Re: Installing CAINE interface
Hello Charles,
If you want to install CAINE to another distribution you have to:
1. Copy the directory /usr/share/caine/* (the source files in Perl are here, with the main.pl and also autospy). I think that the directory is path-independent, but I am not sure...
2. Install the following packages:
Install TSK from source and copy Autopsy directory inside the caine directory.
Optional. if you want to use AIR, install -> sharutils perl-tk cryptcat (AIR must be downloaded for the developer page)
- - -
I will try this method on my PC and my own Ubuntu. Please, report if there are any problems. CAINE Interface is very "embedded" inside CAINE Live CD. In version 1.0 we will develop a more independent version!

Giancarlo,
DO I have to use the 2.20 version of autopsy? Also I'm using the 3.0.1 version of TSK.

Re: Installing CAINE interface
Giancarlo,
after moving the caine files and installing the necessary packages. I attempt to run the main.pl with ./main.pl (or sudo ./main.pl) and get:
DRAFT:/usr/share/caine# ./main.pl
./main.pl: line 17: BEGIN: command not found
./main.pl: line 18: syntax error near unexpected token `('
./main.pl: line 18: `$dirname = dirname($0);'
Any Ideas?

Re: Installing CAINE interface
I don't really know... This is a very generic error, and I should try to install CAINE in your new environment, that I see it is very different from Ubuntu!
Re: Installing CAINE interface
Well you may have to wait until the next release comes out. Its a total rebuild, not built on ubuntu & completely from scratch. I'll check on the perl install.
